What's the difference btw the different isotopes used in nuclear power plants?

Why do they use different kinds? Is there a reason they use so many? Like, what's the role of 131 Iodine, 137 Cesium, 90 Strontium and the dreaded 239 Plutonium? Are they all found in the same amount at every reactor?
