Must I have facebook?

Really I know it's invaluable in the information age, but I detest and abhor it because I believe it to be contributing to a phenomena I call the collective societal ego. I feel it's making people (my generation in particular) generally more self-important and less caring for their fellow human beings. Like everyone has a page to visit full of ual conquests, petty concerns and embellished tales of heroism. Besides, I don't want to put my face all over the internet and I wouldn't be interested in maintaining a page if I did have one. It would actually be labour to me to update my face book page.
